2nd Japanese Seminar
written by: Kathleen Aquino a.k.a. Sakumoko-chan

CBA 401,12:00-2:00,Sept 16,2009 — It was pretty hot that day, but there were alot of Genshiken members and other invited people to stay and study with the Genshiken people. Still, Key Ann-sensei was the speaker for the seminar. This time, the listeners were taught of new things.

As always, the seminar started with a bow, as a sign of respect and gratitude. A short clip about Japan, it’s seasons, culture, and people was shown. The video clip made the audience be eager to go to visit and learn more about Japan.

The audience were told to speak out their “???????? (Jikoushoukai)” or the “self Introduction”

For those who didn’t make it, it’s like this:

Minna-san Konichiwa
Watashi wa _______ desu/to moushimasu.
_(your country)-jin_desu.
_(Your school)_ no gakusei desu.
Dozou Yoroshiku.

_(Your country)_ kara Kimashite.

Translation:

Everyone, good afternoon.
I am _______.
I am a _(nationality/country)_
I am a student at _(your school)_.
Please take care of me from now on.

I came from _(Your country)_

Example:

In English:

Everyone, good afternoon.
I am Chris
I am a Filipino
I am a Student in De La Salle-Dasma
I came from the Philippines.

In Japanese:

Minna-san Konichiwa
Watashi wa Chris desu.
Firipin-jin desu.
De La Salle no gakusei desu.

Understand a little bit better?

The listeners were also taught how to give their calling cards the Japanese way. It’s pretty hard at first, but when you try it for yourself, it’s pretty fun actually. Japanese usually turn the calling cards, their name facing (in the Calling card) the other person. It is somewhat like presenting yourself to others, just only giving something that he’ll remember abut yourself.

Also, the attendees were made  to recite the Japanese numbers from 1 to 10,000. It becomes pretty hard in the ‘Hundreds’ part of the counting. Here’s a technique on how to say the numbers without getting lost. Use the “Ones, tenths, Hundreds..”

Like this:

10,000+1,000+100+10+1

At the end, the attendees were made to watch a Japanese Lesson, which has been shown in the NHK channel. It was a review of the Jikoushoukai or self-introduction.

The 2nd Nihongo Seminar was a blast! New things were learned about Japan, how the society speak, and interact to each other.

Stay tuned for the last part of the Nihonggo Seminar and an exam awaits for the last part. So, minna-san…

…Benkyoushimasu!!!

Risa Koizumi, taller than an average girl, and Atsushi Ootani, shorter than an average guy — their constant bickering and comical love-hate relationship is well-known throughout the school. They act similarly and love the same music, and their friendship is full of laughing, shouting at each other, and of course, joking about each other’’s height. But when Risa notices her feelings for Ootani growing, she got worried. She doesn’t know if he can ever see her as more than a friend. With her friends rooting for her, she struggles to make him see how she feels about him, and that a romantic relationship between a tall girl and a short guy can work. Oblivious Ootani doesn’t make things easy for her, but she stubbornly perseveres in her own unconventional way, determined for her feelings to get through to him, and finally be returned. If only she could do it without driving herself and everyone else crazy in the process…

How I love this anime so much. One of it it’s because Johnny’s Entertainment were on it and the anime itself. It basically a Romance-Comedy and it has a Kansai dialect in the whole story. You can actually feel how Kansai people treat each other. It has a good drawing and plot. It’s based on a High School ofe, how to be in love and how to find the guy right for you, In this case the protagonist fell in love on the guy she despise because of his height and his irritating teasing. But because he is gentle and kind, she slowly falls for him. For the guy. he has the same intention. He doesn’t like her. He is a person who is thick headed and doesn’t feel that a person has feelings for him. So Risa, the protagonists tried her best to let him show how she feels until he realized on what she feels about him. It did took a while for Ootani to understand, he is determined to stop Risa to stop falling for him at the end, he went and fall instead. Their love path is pretty comedic. They always fight. And at one scene where Ootani took the test and all of Risa’s friends saw that Ootani was sad, they thought that he failed, so she tried to find him and saw him in the skyway (a walking place above where the cars go). And Risa hurriedlly runs towards him and shocks him. I love how the reaction of Risa is shown, plus the audio of her voice, can’t seem to get over that scene.

In conclusion, I can say that is pretty different, wherein all of the characters speak Kansai-ben and the romance-comedy is really shown. Watch it for yourself and tell me on what you think *smile*.

Jdrama: Bloody Monday
Ending Song: Over the rain~Hikari no Hashi

Review Written by: Sakumoko-chan

It made me watch this drama because of the artist. Miura Haruma, from Koizora,Gokusen 3, Crows Zero II (movie)

This drama was based on an original manga by Ryumon Ryo.It was full of computers and hacking. Pretty unusual for some Jdramas.

At the first episode of the drama, a video was shown, it was in Russia. There were people who were killed by a certain virus named “Bloody X” and now, there was a person, determined to destroy Japan, rought that same virus to Japan. There is a Special Unit in Japan namely the ‘Third-i’ who helps in catching the culprits with the help of Fujimaru Takagi, a high school student who was caught hacking into a government system. He was the checking the culprit’s whereabouts, trying to stop the terrorist’s plan. But it’s not easy as it seems. There were alot of his friends or protectors that were in the terrorist’s side.
There is one hurdle Takagi must face. How will he save Japan now?

I can say after finally finshing the whole drama. it was full of computers and hacking. You can really feel the love of his friends and how they help each other in protecting their country, pitifull on how he was the one stressed in on the work. I love those close ups on him, when he’s working in his hacking skills.

*Maybe Not >. **Varies from Person to person depending on character

As to why we need to go over these:

Rolling
This is a pre-requisite skill for throwing, and falling techniques as those techniques require a person to be accustomed to being upside down. Further, understanding how to roll will help in preventing injury to ones self.

Backward Rolling
This is more of an evasive technique, but also an important skill to have as it will give you more options in the event something goes wrong during the skit.
eg. You lose your weapon, and need to block a downward attack. Instead, evade with a back roll, recover weapon, then continue with skit.

Basics of Unarmed Combat
To create a believable combat scene, one must know how actual combat is. The same goes for acting out believable combat. One must be familiarized with proper form in attacking, and blocking, along with side stepping before they can act it out properly. It’s not hard to tell two people to “punch like this, and block like that” or “side step here, then counter like this”, but actually doing it, and making it believable takes a bit more.

Trowing Techniques
Watching two people go at it in a fist fight, or even with weapons is good and fun, but to make things more realistic, we, the choreographers, would like to add throws to the skit. As such, we would like you to have a decent understanding of how to throw people without causing them harm. Do not worry, we have very good stunt men ready, willing, and able to help you learn to throw people.

Falling Techniques
Of course our stunt men can’t do the actual falls in the skit for you after you get throw, if you get thrown. That is why we will teach you techniques to do REAL falls without hurting yourself. You think martial artists just take hits? O.o they’re tough, not stupid. There are tricks to it.

Cartwheel
It’s a nice technique to know, and a very flashy one at that. This technique is optional, but knowing how to do one would give us a lot more options in the flash department.

Weapon Training
Every character has a weapon. As such we want you to know how to actually use it before actual skit practice so that if something goes wrong you have a better chance to be able to defend yourself.
