We, the skit coordinator, believe that Genshiken can do better! All we just need is your cooperation, the cosplayers cooperation… We are not just feeling it, but we really KNOW that we can do it!!

  1. Iron Kros says:

We’re here to train but where are the cosplayers? They must want to cosplay and be trained first.

  2. Mzero says:

Please remember, this training is not so for us to show off, it if for THE COSPLAYERS, and GENSHIKEN. It is for Genshiken so that we, the fight coreographers, can organize more difficult, more eye catching, more entertaining, and just generally better cosplay skit (since most skits contain some sort of combat). Secondly, it is for the cosplayers so that they can, not only execute the moves, but execute them safely. We would like to request their participation in the training. Our schedules are very flexible.

Just come to the Kubo and say you want to be trained for stunts. Otherwise you may end up just being a hindrance to the group. We, the choreographers, are planning very action packed combat. Combat that looks like an actual fight to the death. If you REALLY refuse to attend the stunt training, please at least attend every actual practice when the skit is completed so that you can catch up in the techniques that we are going over in the stunt practice.

As to why we need to go over these:

    Rolling
This is a pre-requisite skill for throwing, and falling techniques as those techniques require a person to be accustomed to being upside down. Further, understanding how to roll will help in preventing injury to ones self.

    Backward Rolling
This is more of an evasive technique, but also an important skill to have as it will give you more options in the event something goes wrong during the skit.
eg. You lose your weapon, and need to block a downward attack. Instead, evade with a back roll, recover weapon, then continue with skit.

    Basics of Unarmed Combat
To create a believable combat scene, one must know how actual combat is. The same goes for acting out believable combat. One must be familiarized with proper form in attacking, and blocking, along with side stepping before they can act it out properly. It’s not hard to tell two people to “punch like this, and block like that” or “side step here, then counter like this”, but actually doing it, and making it believable takes a bit more.

    Trowing Techniques
Watching two people go at it in a fist fight, or even with weapons is good and fun, but to make things more realistic, we, the choreographers, would like to add throws to the skit. As such, we would like you to have a decent understanding of how to throw people without causing them harm. Do not worry, we have very good stunt men ready, willing, and able to help you learn to throw people.

    Falling Techniques
Of course our stunt men can’t do the actual falls in the skit for you after you get throw, if you get thrown. That is why we will teach you techniques to do REAL falls without hurting yourself. You think martial artists just take hits? O.o they’re tough, not stupid. There are tricks to it.

    Cartwheel
It’s a nice technique to know, and a very flashy one at that. This technique is optional, but knowing how to do one would give us a lot more options in the flash department.

    Weapon Training
Every character has a weapon. As such we want you to know how to actually use it before actual skit practice so that if something goes wrong you have a better chance to be able to defend yourself.
